Our launch base
Matangi Green Steel begins its journey in Mauritania country poised to become a cornerstone of green industrialisation. We are establishing an end-to-end steel production ecosystem, one that uses renewable energy at scale and redefines efficiency from mine to mill. With our first phase alone, we are laying the foundation for Africa’s next-generation manufacturing economy, producing 2.0 million tonnes of low-carbon steel annually and creating over 7,500 plus jobs.
Our Operations Across Mauritania
Three sites. One sustainable mission.
From ore to Hot Rolled Coil, Matangi is creating a new model will produce steel to cater Automobile, Agriculture, White goods, Engineering and Infrastructure & other industries. Our operation starts at the Ambika and Heramba iron ore blocks, where beneficiation kicks off the green journey. In Nouadhibou, we convert raw materials into world-class steel, using clean energy and cutting-edge processes.
Setting a regional benchmark
This is more than a plant. It is West Africa’s first large-scale integrated green steel project. From beneficiation to HR and CR coils, Matangi represents a future-proof model of zero-compromise steelmaking. Fully electric. Fully circular. Built for impact.
A mega-scale milestone
Covering 1000 hectares and backed by a $2.0 billion investment, Matangi’s Project Phase I includes:
- 16.0 MTPA iron ore beneficiation
- 4.0 MTPA pelletising
- 2.5 MTPA direct reduction
- 2.0 MTPA steel melting shop (EAF & LF)
- 2.0 MTPA hot rolled coils
On track for 2027- 2030

Our Sustainable Process
Green energy at every stage
Our operations are designed from the ground up to run on renewable electricity, ensuring every tonne of steel comes with a drastically lower carbon footprint.
Beneficiation with impact
At our iron ore blocks in Choum and Akjoujt, we are establishing Africa’s most advanced beneficiation facilities, with 16.0 million tonnes of annual capacity and cutting-edge water and energy efficiency systems.
A state-of-the-art Pellet Plant will use advanced technology to produce 4.0 MTPA high-grade DRI/BF iron ore pellets from magnetite ore concentrate, ensuring superior quality, enhanced efficiency, and sustainable steelmaking through optimized processes and reduced environmental impact.
By using green energy instead of fossil fuels, our 2.5 MTPA direct reduction plant drastically cuts CO₂ emissions —producing clean iron at scale.
Using electric arc furnaces (EAF) and ladle furnaces (LF), Matangi’s steel melting shop is fully electrified. The result? High-quality steel with up to 95% fewer emissions than traditional processes.
Casting & Hot Rolling
With a state-of-the-art hot rolling mill, we will produce 2.0 MTPA of hot-rolled coils—high-strength, with excellent surface finish and dimensional accuracy—ideal for demanding industrial applications.
